Winters usually include one or two blasts of Arctic air, usually right around Christmas or New Year's, that bring snow and freezing weather to the Portland area.

During winter, snow is expected in the cascades and even some of the Coast Range passes can get icy.
In the Cascades and eastern Oregon's Blue and Wallowa Mountains, snowfall is heavy in the winter and skiing is a popular sport.

On the coast, its grayer, wetter weather than in the Portland area. Around in the summer its quite cool and is often foggy or rainy throughout the year. The best month for the coast is usually September, with good weather often holding on into October.

Most winweries are closed in January and Feburary, when most wineries are closed. Many wineries are open daily during the summer months, but in spring and fall are open only on weekends.
